COMMUNITY DEPARTMENT

The department focuses on promoting and protecting the health of the population by integrating nursing principles with public health practices. It prepares nurses to provide care in both rural and urban communities, emphasizing prevention, health promotion, and disease management. The students are trained in the areas of family and community assessment and identify health problems of people living in the community.

Department is also involved in imparting regular health education to the public of the rural and urban areas, with emphasis on primary prevention, in guiding the UG/PG research projects of students and research consultancy.

The Department actively participates in the extension activities like National Health Programmes and health camps. The department is involved in training the students of School and College of Nursing in the outreach areas of Padil and Pudu primary health centres.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To impart essential knowledge, attitude and skills to provide quality services in communities.
  2. To empower learners to respond to health needs in the cultural context using existing facilities.
  3. To develop skills for collaboration with community-based groups towards health promotion
  4. To make students aware of the role of nurses in health care delivery systems.
  5. To promote research mindedness in learners through the use of epidemiological methods.
